Mindfulness.
Choice.
Process.
To heal we have to be mindful. Mindfulness is defined as "a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations." This requires finding a safe place whether you create that time for yourself or you find it in the confidence of a validating friend. This takes vulnerability.
Healing involves making a choice. A choice is "an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities." It is not always an easy choice. Sometimes all of the options look insurmountable. It is especially difficult when one has experienced a trauma, loss, abuse, something that has shattered your sense of safety or identity. This takes courage.
Healing is a process. A process is "a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end." This process does not look the same for everyone. Sometimes we think we have moved through a part of healing only to have a trigger pull us back into a memory. We must be patient with our process as we graciously move forward at the same time. In time you find that the trigger is weakening it's hold, that the pain is not the same, that you indeed are not the same person. That you have grown and changed. This takes time.
The limbic lobe is a group of brain structures that are directly connected to the parts of your brain that control many aspects of your body – hormone levels, stress, memory, breathing, heart rate, and more. One way to stimulate the limbic lobe of the brain is through your sense of smell. This can unlock feelings such as depression, fear, joy, anxiety that are stored there.
This is one reason that essential oils are a powerful tool in instilling a sense of grounding and courage to choose the ability to be mindful so that we can process the memories and feelings that need healing. They help support you as you go through, easing the ability to open up. Essential oils are also known to help unlock emotions stored in the limbic system and release them for complete healing. AMAZING!
Choose 2-4 emotional support blends to begin with. Roll on bottles make great starters and if you love the blend you can purchase full strength the second time around and refill them to save money. Put them in a place you will remember to use them each morning. Choose the one you connect with the most (or layer two) and apply them as you begin your day.
Wear them like a perfume, behind the ears, the base of the neck, at the wrists. Use your primary choice with a nasal inhaler throughout the day. Diffuse them, use them with diffuser jewelry, add them to a night time bath. Be sure to use them before self care routines and that guarded space to process that you need. Remember that by inhaling essential oils you are allowing them to go right to the limbic system in the brain!
